At A Fine Line, we count ourselves very fortunate to be able to work with some of the finest vendors in Tucson. We love sharing their merchandise and expertise with you whenever possible. This year, one of our favorite "finds" has been Annette Hartman Catering. She has catered several of our special events, and everyone raves about how tasty everything is.

The food is superb. In fact, Jeanne states that you can taste the love in every bite.

Whether catering weddings,

indoor affairs,

or outdoor venues, you can be sure that the service will be superb, friendly, and that the presentations will be beautiful.

In addition to catering, Annette Hartman also hosts two other businesses in the Copper Country Antiques store at 5055 E. Speedway Blvd., Tucson AZ.

Amelia Grey's Tea Garden is a sweet venue available for showers and private parties. A Fine Line is pleased to have a small vignette displaying merchandise from the store, as well as darling flea market and estate sale items for sale.

If you've been contemplating whether it would be worth the drive to see my home in Oro Valley the answer is "yes". I've lived in this town for almost 20 years now and if you haven't seen the view of the Catalina Mountains from this side you just have to see how pretty it is. The drive from the east side of town isn't that bad - I do it each way every day.

Marcella gave you a little look at a few vignettes of my Christmas decor to whet your appetite but I just couldn't wait to share more than just a little sneak peek of my home.

My dear friends, Jane Bee and Kathy Dwyer, took these amazing photos of my home trimmed for Christmas and they are so beautiful I just had to post them immediately!

You'll be inspired to update your own home and gather easy decorating ideas that you can implement yourself.

Or, have me do a holiday decorating consultation. While we are not formally offering decorating services yet at A Fine Line (a possible plan for 2012), I do have a few appointment slots available to consult with you in your own home this season. I'll help you combine your treasured holiday collection with some new decor to update your look. I'm a "use what you have" kind of gal that loves to "freshen it up" with some new accents.

The entire display was a feast for the eyes.

Melt-in-your-mouth chocolates from Sabino Artisan Chocolates were enormously popular as well. AFL is proud to sell these gourmet yummies by Tucson Chocolatier, Diane Trinque.

But that's not all the Dream Team at A Fine Line has been up to. The following Sunday, November 13, the gals displayed their creativity with a table display at Sensational Settings, a local fundraiser which benefits St. Luke's Home.

The beautiful floral arrangement was designed by Elaine Taylor Fine Flowers.

The theme for the table decor was "Simply Elegant"

The mix of colors, glassware and chargers was a very popular hit with the attendees.

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

I love this season! Starting with Thanksgiving when I have an opportunity to reflect on all that I am grateful for, moving towards Christmas when I share festivities with so many of my friends and family & celebrate redemption, and then on the New Years looking forward to the year ahead - I just wish I could slow it all down and savor the moments a little longer. My wish for each of you is that you will enjoy this time of the year and that it will be as low-stress as possible.

A Fine Line is in the process of changing out our displays from Fall to Winter but I still have a tabletop display set for Thanksgiving! Our Christmas merchandise is out and we are getting new arrivals all the time. And we have great gifts and stocking stuffers.

One of my top sellers last year was a large Nativity Set and many of you were disappointed when I sold out of it. The good news is that I have a new one that we are offering this year.

I love so much about it. It is not quite as large as the other, making it a little more manageable to find a spot for and a lot easier to store, but still big enough to make a great statement. It is a little more refined - but still has great character. It is made of Terra Cotta with a sweet light cream glaze.
$198 for the 8 piece set. Supply is limited so hurry.

The tree is trimmed and the Christmas decor has already started selling very quickly. This year I've trimmed the tree in natural bark embellishments, moss ribbon, and different tones of metallic pinecones and ornaments. The pewter, mocha, silver, gold and champagne tones are so natural and pretty together and add a touch of elegance to an otherwise beautiful but understated designer look.

Also, it's time to order your Christmas Cards and Holiday Party Invitations. Kristi is geared up and ready for the rush! We've got an even bigger selection of products and designs to choose from this year. One of our favorite additions is this new line of photocards with a great preppy look.

Holiday Soiree this Thursday

A Fine Line is celebrating their Second Anniversary this week with a special day of shopping and festivities from 10am-7pm this Thursday, November 10, 2011. My name is Marcella Schannep and I am a third-generation native Arizonan. My husband and I have raised our three children here in Tucson, and as you can see from the photo below, I was recently a Mother of the Bride. My experience working with the staff during what could have been a very frantic time was such fun, that I was eager to introduce them to you through the past few blog posts. Let me tell you more of my experience in shaping this celebration with the ladies of A Fine Line.

1. What are your favorite items at AFL? As the Mother of the Bride, I was pretty focused on the usual. We loved the Vera Wang invitations we selected, and then Kristi worked with us to create and print the escort cards, programs and table numbers in-house, which was VERY budget friendly.

And, of course, working with Elaine Taylor Fine Flowers was wonderful. She did such an amazing job on the bouquets, and was very creative with the colors my daughter requested.

She wrapped the bridal bouquet in the handkerchief with which I carried my bridal bouquet , then secured it with a cameo brooch belonging to my daughter's great-grandmother.

But a fun surprise for all of us was the wide variety of gift items available at A Fine Line.

My younger daughter, the Maid of Honor, purchased these darling luggage tags as a Shower gift.

The bride loved the selection of gift tags to embellish the gift bags for her bridesmaids.

A frame created by this same artist is one of the newlyweds' favorite wedding gifts.

And what is a special day without special jewelry? In my photo above I am wearing a creation from a local artist. A Fine Line features several local artists, and jewelry can be custom-made, according to what your special celebration calls for.

2.What have you learned - or what is your favorite thing you have discovered - working at AFL? The importance of merchandise display. Whether it be serving pieces, home decor, or jewelry, these women are magic. By far, my MOST favorite thing is when they get in new merchandise! 3. When you entertain, what is an important decor for you? Whether a small, intimate gathering, or a large indoor/outdoor reception, I love having a theme. Be it a color or a concept, I love planning menus, decor and little touches around my home and garden around a theme.

4. What is your favorite part about interacting with shoppers at AFL? I don't work at AFL frequently, but when I do, I am like the other women at the store: I love the stories. And as blog editor, I want to share YOUR stories. Meet the Invitation Specialist

Kristi Erceg is a rare breed - a native Tucsonan. She has raised her three children right here in the Old Pueblo as well. When she returned to college to study Design, she re-discovered her love for the written word. "It holds tremendous power when expressed from a sincere heart. It can heal, liberate and restore hope." Those who have worked with Kristi to craft an invitation for a special event know how very careful and exact she is when creating verbage, helping a customer find just the right design - and making it all work within budgetary needs. Kristi is another reason the shopping experience at A Fine Line is so special.

1.What are your favorite items at AFL? Stationery, cards, invitations

2. What have you learned - or what is your favorite thing you have discovered - working at AFL? Whether it is planning an event or announcing a special occasion, regardless of budget, you can create something magical with genuine good taste. I delight in working alongside our clientele to design announcements expressing those seasons that define their lives: the birth of a child or grandchild, a sweet 16 party, a wedding, or the retirement of one who has selflessly served.

3. When you entertain, what is your favorite venue? I find small, intimate gatherings absolutely delightful.To me, it’s the daily moments shared with loved ones that make life a celebration.

4. When you entertain, what is an important decor for you? For me, the most important decor are the people you surround your table with. That and lighting, whether candles or a lovely chandelier, the softness of light creates inviting conversations.

5. What is your favorite part about interacting with shoppers at AFL?

Our clientele is so diverse, some visiting from out of town, young and old. I just enjoy their stories so much, especially when working with an engaged couple. And I love watching friends interact while shopping and oohing and ahhing over fun discoveries in the store.

Meet The Gift Consultant

Nancy Cox and her family moved to Tucson from Colorado Springs 24 years ago, and immediately began contributing to our community in a variety of ways. Anyone who knows Nancy will tell you that she is a "People Person". Her warmth and genuine interest in people help make shopping at A Fine Line a unique, satisfying experience. When a customer is seeking the perfect gift for an event or special person, Nancy will listen carefully. She then takes great joy in helping find just the right gift, just the right card, just the right touch.

1.What are your favorite items at AFL?
I love the home accessories and the fun pick me up gifts that we carry for birthdays and hostess gifts.

2. What have you learned - or what is your favorite thing you have discovered - working at AFL?I have enjoyed learning the invitation business as well as being creative in the way that the merchandise is displayed. My favorite thing is to help our customers find the perfect gift for any occasion!

3. When you entertain, what is your favorite venue?
I prefer to entertain 3 or 4 couples for an outdoor barbeque. I take great pleasure in cooking and arranging flowers for a whimsical and fun table presentation.

4. When you entertain, what is an important decor for you? I like to choose a theme when entertaining. It’s such fun creating the theme by the china and table linens you use. The centerpiece whether it be flowers, candles or both also play into the theme of your evening. I want all my guests to feel comfortable while dining inside my home or in my garden.

5. What is your favorite part about interacting with shoppers at AFL?
I told my husband after my first week working at AFL that I felt as if I was at an open house seeing old friends as well as meeting new ones. It is such a pleasure working with the gals at AFL. We have fun and enjoy helping everyone that walks through our door.

Meet The Owner

As you may recall from the last blog posting, the women at A Fine Line were featured in the June 2011 issue of Tucson Lifestyle Home&Garden Magazine as "The Pros Who Know". Let's spend the next few weeks getting to know each of them, beginning with the owner Jeanne Dwan.

Jeanne Dwan grew up on the east side of Tucson just a few miles away from where AFL is located. She has lived in Oro Valley for the past 19 years and now enjoys working in her old stomping grounds. Her great love for entertaining, decorating and shopping have led her to create this wonderful Stationery, Gift and Home Boutique. Jeanne loves to celebrate events, both large and small. However, she recognizes that it is the hospitality that matters, and she strives to "bless rather than impress" her guests. The shopping environment she has created evokes her gifts of warmth and hospitality.

1. What are your favorite items at AFL? Oh my! Do I have to choose just one? Well, Tokyo Milk is a recent addition and I’m very excited about it. We currently carry their lotion, lip balm, and adorable greeting cards. They are packaged as pretty as they smell, and have a fresh, young look. Watch for another addition to this line that we’ll be adding in the fall (hint: it rhymes with plume – with an extra syllable).

2. What have you learned - or what is your favorite thing you have discovered - working at AFL? This sounds silly but I really didn’t know how much I love paper! That drawer filled with the last pieces of stationery from each box that I just can’t part with should have been a clue for me. I’ve always loved fabric because I love pattern, color and texture. Paper has all those same elements and I want every new design I see!

3. When you entertain, what is your favorite venue? I love to entertain in a variety of different ways and places. If I could be anything in the world when I grow up I would like to be a professional table setter (make sure to see my tablescape at Sensational Settings in November). So doing cocktails and hor d’ourves by the pool, dinner in the dining room, and dessert in the living room gives me an opportunity to decorate 3 different areas and use 3 different sets of dishes!

4. When you entertain, what is an important decor item for you? Anything that creates the ambiance that I’m going for. In all types of decorating I think it is important to appeal to all 5 of the senses. So I like to set the mood by welcoming my guests with a pretty smelling candle, nice music, a festive table, yummy food and drink, and an overall atmosphere that makes them feel comfortable.

5.What is your favorite part about interacting with shoppers at AFL? I love sharing in the joy of their celebrations. I have a particularly fond memory of one my regular customers walking into the store one day. I greeted her with “How are you today?” She threw her hands into the air and squealed “Glorious!” She had just found out that she was going to be a grandma and needed a card to congratulate her son and daughter-in-law.

An Amazing Dad

My father died over 20 years ago and I still miss him terribly. But I was lucky to have a dad that was loving, a man of good character and was very fun. He was not only a great dad but also an amazing grandfather. We all miss Grandpa Ken!

But I was blessed with another man shortly after my father's death. He is the love of my life and an amazing dad to our children!

Thank you, honey, for being my best friend & partner. And for being the provider, protector, encourager, Godly leader, man of character, cheerleader, hero, teacher, silly guy, listener, wise voice, faithful, caring, generous, supportive, loving role-model for our family.

She modeled unconditional love, and graciously opened our home to those in need. And above all she was a FUN mom, laughing over silly things with us and celebrating our special moments in special ways.

My mom is my shero because...she was able to blend two families together with love and grace. My biological mother passed away when I was 8, leaving my dad with three children to raise. Two years later, my father married lovely Jeanne who had two young children of her own. Jeanne melded us into a real-life Brady Bunch family, sharing her heart and her love with all of us.

The Royal Wedding

Like everyone else around the world A Fine Line has been eagerly anticipating the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The nuptials take place on April 29, and our store is pleased to feature a medley of "British-inspired" and "Royal-themed" merchandise.

We hope you'll stop by to see the merchandise display that was cleverly created by Cherie in tribute to the Royal Event. Cherie's displays are always wonderful but this one is particularly fun!

An event such as a Royal Wedding calls for a celebration, and A Fine Line is always ready to help make it a special occasion. A "Fair Theme" was fun for Spring.

Our shoppers loved the new merchandise. The grand-prize winner of the Passport Shopping Event was SUSAN CAMPISANO. Susan had her passport stamped at all 3 stores - Elements, Embellish & A Fine Line and won a $100 GIFT CERTIFICATE TO EACH STORE. Have a fun shopping spree, Susan!

Janet Setterland's display of handpainted furniture and original, signed plaques was a delight!

Elaine Taylor showed us how we can easily create our own spring bouquets by using different sized containers and fresh flowers grouped together. We love that she added a special little touch by incorporating some of our seasonal Spring decor!

Annette Hartman Catering put together festive "fair food" that was absolutely delicious. Her menu included Teriyaki Chicken on skewers, Pigs in a Blanket, Crudites in an ice dispenser, Chocolate Dipped Cheesecake on a stick, and a homemade Peach Cobbler bouquet.

Tom Gerlak of Ice T Ice Art provided these ice carving centerpieces. These are something I will definitely feature at my next party (Kara's Graduation Open House?). I used to think of Iie sculptures as being something for only the resorts or a corporate event. Not any more!

These centerpieces are affordable and stunning. They come with the drip tray and are up lit in different colors to add additional drama.

This was so fun to watch how Tom takes this sparkling block of clear ice and transforms it into a work of art. The guys especially loved the demonstration which involved lots of power tools!

Tah-Dah! A desert landscape!

Our "Designers Tent Sale" was a lot of fun! We had a fun assortment of resale furniture, architectural relics, and home decor. Repurposing old furniture is a fun way to go "green".

If you missed it we have a few pieces of furniture left that we need to get out of our "borrowed suite" next door so come by soon for a private showing! The wind didn't cooperate with us that weekend so the tent went down just about as quick as it went up!

Who does this? Decorates an empty retail suite for a 3 day sale? Ummm. Us!

A fabulous console table with iron legs used to live in Beverly Hills! It was a heavy piece to get home but so striking. I think it was worth it (maybe because I didn't do the heavy lifting!)

We'll keep in touch as new merchandise arrives in the store. Watch as the store is transformed from "Country Fair" to everything "Spring" - coming soon!

Please visit our DESIGNERS TENT SALE at A Fine Line this week on Thurs 10-7, Fri 10-5 & Sat 10-3, featuring treasures of all sorts! My friends beg to shop in my garage, so I'm bringing my garage to you! We'll have Chandeliers, Furniture, Accent Pieces, Architectural Relics and more!

We will also be featuring some pieces from Relish, Sandy Lehman (former owner of Shabby Hattie), and handpainted furniture by Janet Setterland. Preparation for this has been exhausting but it is going to be very fun. Please spread the word.

I'm not hip on garage sales but I LOVE a fabulous Antique & Flea Market. A lot of my treasures have been found at these venues! When I visit my daughter in Southern California a flea market is a must. They happen on Sundays in various locations. One of the largest (and most exciting) is the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena.

My two daughters accompanied me on my last trip.

I discovered one of our jewelry designers at a Flea Market. She travels France looking for fabulous French Medallions and then recasts them in sterling silver to create exciting new designs which we carry at AFL. I have a fetish for chandeliers (along with a few other things)! I have 2 crystal ones currently hanging in my garage that are waiting for a more permanent place inside our home.

My daughter, Amanda, is a pro at finding great things hidden in a pile of otherwise junkie pieces. I know she's found something wonderful when I hear, "Mom, I think you NEED this!" My husband reminds me that I don't NEED anything else since we can no longer get our cars in the garage!

Just posting these photos makes me happy. I'm re-living the whole flea market experience!

On my latest trip I had the pleasure of meeting Emily Henderson, HGTV's newest Design Star. She was shopping for treasures she'll be using on this seasons new show, "Secrets of a Stylist." It was fun to visit with her about what her life has been like since becoming a "star" and what is in store for her show. I can't wait to see that bookshelf that I tripped over featured on TV.

"Secrets of a Stylist" airs on Sundays on HGTV. I missed the premier last week but made sure that my DVR is set from now on.

Getting my purchases home is always a challenge! I'm trying to limit my buying to small items, whenever possible.

But sometimes I just can't resist a fabulous headboard that is beging for a paint job or tall wicker night stands that will be perfect in the guest room that I hope to have some day...

I'm back from my buying trip and we have lots of new and exciting merchandise arriving at A Fine Line Stationery & Gift Boutique. I found so many wonderful things that I can't wait for you to see. I thought I'd share a little preview of a few items that are on their way.

Coming soon! A new line of adorable cards by Tokyo Milk. Sweet, fresh designs and darling greetings. My personal favorite is one with an Octopus on the front that says "I want to wrap my arms around you." Perfect for your guy to let him know how much you care, or for a girlfriend going through a tough situation. They've been shipped so they should be arriving soon.

Lindsey Phillips shoes with snap on embellishments. Nancy Cox introduced me to these shoes months ago and I don't know how I lived without them. Their ballet style shoes are SO COMFORTABLE, light, easy to carry, and SO CUTE!

The flowers snap off and you can replace them with a variety of different embellishments.

I love this sparkling linen-look shoe for Spring and Summer

Matching handbags are also on their way. The same embellishments for the shoes can be used on the handbag.

The new jelly flip flops use the same decorative snaps as the ballet slippers and will be a popular addition to the line I'm sure!

Fall Event & Anniversary Celebration

The Fall Event and Anniversary Celebration was a huge success! Thank you to all who attended. It was fun to see each of you.

If you weren't able to make it last week please come by this week to see the store - it will absolutely inspire you. Nancy, Cheri, Elaine & Kristi put together some fantastic displays. It looks absolutely adorable!

Festivities during the event included Pumpkin Embellishment Workshops, Fall Table Setting Demonstrations, Trunk Shows by Donna Maas of DMaas Jewelry Designs and Catharine Hyatt of Cata's Colonial Designs, Sales and Refreshments.

The store was filled to the brim with seasonal decor putting us all in the mood for fall - even if the temperatures outside weren't yet "fallish"!

Our paper wedding gown, which we've affectionately named "Monique", was originally displayed at the Tucswon Wedding Expo, was then transformed into a Ball Gown for the 2010 Tucson Symphony Cotillion Jr. Patronesses that attended the private Breakfast at Tiffany & Company in La Encantada, and is currently sporting a black sash & witches hat in honor of the season at AFL!

The velvet pumpkins with real pumpkin stems and the whimsical "Woof & Poof" designs were hot sellers!

The embellished pumpkins will remain on display this week so come by to see them if you missed the event. We can give you a quick overview of how they were made using various techniques including glittering, chalkboard paint, rub on transfers, ribbon embellishments, and decoupage. An easy technique is the addition of a festive bow and a premade glittered embellishment purchased at AFL!

If you're not crafty yourself but would like one of these beautiful real pumpkins for your home (they also make fabulous hostess gifts and centerpieces) some of them are for sale on a first come, first served basis.

A big thank you to Donna Maas & Catharine Hyatt for co-hosting with us. Your designs are amazing and our shoppers loved having your merchandise available.

Vintage French Inspired Jewelry.

A Fine Line now carries ceramic stonewear dishes by Ann Barnes. After 27 years as a Family Practice Doctor she realized the healing force of human touch also translated in to clay. Having had many teachers in ceramics one to note said "Let the clay speak" (MacKenzie).

Barnes' unique dishes come in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes.

Once the pieces are formed from clay they are baked twice, the second time to over 2200 F.

Our Fine Line staff had the opportunity of hosting a booth at the Bridal Expo at the TCC this month. Our own Nancy (we've nicknamed her "Fancy Nancy" because everything she creates is fabulous) put together this wedding dress made entirely of paper. People who stopped by the booth were able to write down their tips, advice and ideas pertaining to weddings and marriage that adorned the skirt of the dress (see ideas below). Three names were drawn to win special wedding day goodies from A Fine Line.

Tucson Bridal Expo

This beautiful wedding gown made from PAPER was designed by our own Nancy Cox. It was a show-stopper! We asked attendees to embellish our dress with their favorite wedding ideas. Everyone that shared an idea had their names go in for a drawing. Stay tuned for the winners! We'll also be posting a list of their ideas.

Kristi Erceg is an amazing consultant and we are blessed to have her on our team. Our brides love working with her as she assists them in finding just the right invitation to set the tone for their celebration.

Cherie Murphy also works on our invitation team as a consultant. Her expertise and keen eye for design helps streamline what can otherwise be a lengthy process for a bride.

We also carry a fabulous assortment of distinctive cards and gifts. The brides essential survival kits are a favorite! The kit is prettily packaged for the bride, bridesmaid, mother of the bride, or mother of the groom. It is a thoughful gift and contains practical things like extra bobby pins, earring backings, asprin, and other essentials for "just in case" on the day of the event.

We also carry treat boxes, glittered vintage-style cake toppers, handkercheifs embroidered with "grandmother" and "mother", gift bags for bridesmaids, toasting glasses, L-O-V-E Sparklers to top a cake and letterpressed notes to thank the wedding party for their participation in your big day.

Jewelry is a thoughtful gift for the bride or attendants. Two of my favorites are displayed here. A sterling silver envelope that opens and inside is a little silver note that says "I Love You". And a sterling silver charm that says "To Have" and then flips over and says "To Hold". We also carry custom-made pearl and crystal wedding jewelry. Our little freshwater pearl pendants and bracelet are a popular bridesmaid gift.
